Susanoo, the Japanese Shinto god of storms, was banished from heaven due to his unruly behavior. Upon arriving on earth, he encountered a grieving couple whose seven daughters had been devoured by the fearsome eight-headed dragon, Yamata no Orochi. The couple's eighth daughter, Kushinada-hime, was next to be sacrificed.

Determined to save her, Susanoo devised a plan. He transformed Kushinada-hime into a comb and hid her in his hair. He then prepared eight vats of sake, one for each of the dragon's heads.
